Harn Shian is a family sociologist who specialises in the gendered division of household labour in Malay and Chinese households in Malaysia. Her research interests revolve around motherhood, fatherhood, gender, work-family balance and the division of domestic labour. Harn Shian completed an undergraduate degree in antropology and sociology at the University Science Malaysia, followed by a MSc in sociology awarded by the University of Bristol, United Kingdom and Ph.D. by the University of New South Wales, Australia. At the University Science Malaysia, Harn Shian works as a lecturer who teaches in two undergraduate courses: sociology of family and work and life. Harn Shian welcomes postgraduate candidates with an interest in motherhood, fatherhood, gender, work-family balance and the division of domestic labour.
